6) SUPPLEMENTAL RECRUITMENT INITIATIVES

 
1. ITT Tech Fair, July 15, 2009

The Employment Unit participated in the ITT Tech Career Fair Wednesday, July 15, 2009. The Stations’ Chief Engineer, who has substantial responsibility in making hiring decisions, met with attendees to discuss careers in broadcasting. The Chief Engineer also displayed the current job search and had employment applications available.

2. Indiana Black Expo Fair, July 16, 2009. Indianapolis, IN

The Employment Unit participated in the Indiana Black Expo Employment Opportunity Fair in Indianapolis, IN, Thursday, July 16, 2009. A total of 180 announcements were aired in support of the event on WAJI-FM and WLDE-FM. The Stations’ Chief Engineer presented information about Sarkes Tarzian’s Fort Wayne division’s current job search as well as information in broadcasting in general. Employment applications were also available.

3. The Indiana Broadcasters Association Job Fair, October 29, 2009, Indianapolis, IN

Sarkes Tarzian Incorporated’s Fort Wayne divisions co-sponsored the Job Fair with current information about job openings, internship opportunities, and employment applications available to interested parties. Combined, WAJI and WLDE aired 34 announcements in support of the event.

4. The Indiana Broadcasters Association Job Fair, March 6, 2010, Indianapolis, IN

The Stations’ General Manager, who has substantial responsibilities in making hiring decisions, met with attendees interested in careers in broadcasting, at this job fair co-sponsored by WAJI and WLDE. He talked with prospective applicants about job opportunities at the Employment Unit, and provided employment applications to interested parties. The General Manager also discussed internship opportunities available at the Employment Unit. Combined, WAJI and WLDE aired 23 announcements in support of the event.

5. Internship Program

The Employment Unit offers internships throughout the year in areas of Programming, Promotions, Production, Internet, Engineering, Administrative and Sales. These internships are available for high school, including home-schooled, through college. The interns are solicited through on-air ads, career fairs, intern fairs, and through school offices. During the term of this report, WAJI and WLDE hosted 15 interns, who came from University of Saint Francis (2); IPFW (2); Taylor University Fort Wayne (1); Huntington University (1); Indiana Tech (1); Northrop High School (3); Carroll High School (2); Heritage High School (1); Leo High School (1); Norwell High School (1).

6. Job Banks and Internet Programs

The Employment Unit posts all job openings that require external recruitment on the Job Opportunity/EEO sections of the respective station websites, www.waji.com and www.wlde.com. These sites also give interested community organizations the ability to notify us should they wish to receive notification of job openings when they occur. In addition, job openings are posted on the following job banks/websites: IBA website, NAB website, and the BEDA website. The Fort Wayne Journal Gazette and News-Sentinel also include us on their internet listings, along with many of the schools we notify. Stations WAJI and WLDE are Equal Opportunity Employers
