Can I become a foster parent as a single person or do you have to be married? A: yes you can be a single parent home or a two parent home. You must have proof of a marriage or divorce and if you live with a significant other, they must meet all qualifications and attend training as well.
Once I am licensed, how do I get the children into my home? A: You will receive this answer and many others at our training. However, the children whom we place are referred to ResCare Youth services through Department of children’s services (DCS) or Juvenile Probation.
What is required for me to become a foster parent in regards to training? A: You would attend an initial training of 20 hours, provided by our agency. This training is referred to as RAPT training and takes place over a two-weekend period.
Can I work full-time and still be a foster parent? A: Yes, actually you are required to show adequate income to support yourself and the children in your care. However, you or your spouse must have a flexible schedule in order to meet the needs of the youth in your care, along with the assistance from our case management team.
What is the average age of youth in your foster care program? A: Average age is 9-17 years of age. At times we get sibling groups who are younger , but obviously they need to remain together as a family.
Are families reimbursed for any costs? A: Families receive a per diem from the state of Indiana based on the needs of the child as determined by the state.
