Majic 95.1 wants you to learn more about ResCare.
As an agency, we do have several homes who are strictly foster to adopt. However, the majority are for strictly “fostering”.
By this we mean that a child or sibling group could be placed in your home for an average length of stay of 9 months. This obviously could be shorter or longer based upon the child’s overall permanency plan. This permanency plan could be for reunification with biological parents, adoption, independent living or relative placement.
It is imperative to understand, as foster parents, that these children are considered temporary wards. It is obviously difficult to get attached to a child only to turn around and watch them leave. However, if you come in with this knowledge at the forefront, your “mission” is much clearer.
As a foster parent it is your job to provide a safe, nurturing home environment for a child in need, knowing that the main goal is typically reunification. If a child can be safe in their own biological home, we all know that there is no better place for them.
